Kecap Manis – Sweet Soy Sauce


Kecap Manis or ketjap manis (in dutch) is the Indonesian translation for sweet (manis) soy sauce (kecap). So it’s basically a thick and dark soy sauce fermented with palm sugar.
It is also known as Sweet Soy Sauce.

Cooking directions

This sauce is perfect to marinade meat or tofu, for stir fry and for seasoning your dishes afterwards. In Indonesia, a famous dish would be the satay (skewers), in which meat is marinated with the sauce before going on the grill, and then topped with a peanut flavored sauce.

Life shelf

Once opened, you can keep the Kecap Manis for about 2-3 years in the refrigerator like other soy sauce.
